How to Use the Track DNS Tool in cPanel

The Track DNS tool in cPanel includes two great options that can be used to help manage your websites for your any of your webhosting accounts hosted with InMotion Hosting. These network tools allow you to look up domains and even run a trace route. Check out the steps below to see how to access and use the tools.

Using the Track DNS tools

Domain lookup
In order to use either of the available tools under Track DNS you will need to be logged into the cPanel.

Using the Domain Lookup

  1. Domain lookup Under Domain Lookup, click on the field and then type in a domain name.
  2. Click Look Up.
  3. dns results exampleThe information you will see is the Zone Information for the domain. You can see an example of the results in the screen shot at right.

Using the Trace Route option in cPanel

The Trace route option in cPanel can be used instead of having to run it in a terminal window with SSH. The trace route option here only works for the domain assigned to your cPanel. To use it, simply click on the blue Trace button.
