The WordPress Polyglots team officially launched its new monthly newsletter that recaps all of the news in the world of WordPress translation.
WordPress is fully translated into over 65 languages and if you have ever used it in a language other than English, chances are someone on the WordPress Polyglots had something to do with translating it.
For more than 15 years, volunteers have worked to make WordPress more accessible by translating it to other languages as a part of the WordPress Polyglots team. Currently, 55.36% of WordPress sites are running a translated WordPress site.
The WordPress Polyglots team is made up of a group of multilingual translators who work on translating plugins, themes, documentation, and front-facing marketing copy. It started small but has grown to include the work of more than 55,000 contributing translators.
With a team that large, keeping up with everything going on can be time-consuming.
While they do use Slack and other tools to stay connected, the Polyglots Monthly Newsletter was announced in September with the goal of making it easier to find and follow all the news, updates, and discussions taking place in the WordPress translation community.
The first edition was officially published on October 15 with WordPress Translation Day 2021 as its main topic. The month-long celebration of translator contributions to the WordPress project features a total of 22 local events and six global live-streaming events.
Future editions of the newsletter will be sent out on a monthly basis. Once the newsletter is sent, it will also be published on Make/Polyglots as a monthly post, highlighting the top discussions and proposals on the blog.
If WordPress translation is something that interests you and you’d like to get involved with the Polyglots Monthly Newsletter, you can comment on the sign up post to offer help writing, reviewing, or sharing the news.
Weekly meetings are held in the #polyglots Slack channel. Questions in the channel are welcome at any time.
