Hi, Susan! I’d advise a full account backup, simply out of personal preference– I have complete trust in our upgrade team, but I always like to make a full account backup before any major change. Our team will have backups made during the process of the upgrade, and will leave the old Shared account online until a successful transfer is confirmed. Still, best practice is best practice, so I always recommend the extra backup.

Other than that, you don’t need to worry about doing anything before the upgrade. Since the Dedicated server is comparatively huge, your old account will be set up as a cPanel on the new server. The team will leave your old Shared plan up and running during the transfer and won’t take the old Shared account down until the domain is pointed to the new Dedicated account. Depending on who your domain registrar is, the team may be able to do this automatically, or you may need to do so once the account is ready. Other than that, we’ll take care of everything. I hope that helps, and enjoy your new Dedicated Server!

Are there any preparations to do on our side before upgrading from a Shared Server Hosting Plan to a Dedicated Server Hosting Plan? For example, should we perform a Full Account backup before upgrading through AMP? Also, how long would the server downtime be while it’s being upgraded? Thanks in advance.

Hello and sorry for any confusion. You can change auto-renew settings in AMP.

To clarify, you can create as many cPanel accounts as you’d like but our Managed VPS pricing recently changed per current cPanel accounts due to cPanel’s new pricing structure in 2019 which affects all hosting providers. All affected customers were notified of this change via email before the change took place. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

I would like to discontinue the VPS hosting. after it expires. How can cancel auto renew. During purchase time there were no information provided such as there is only 5 accounts can create. It is a clear case of cheating a customer. also looting money. There are lot of other providers there is no such restrictions.

Hello Rodrigro,

As long as your site is approved for the transfer (they’re reviewed before a upgrade) then the site transfers would be handled internally free of charge. I hope that helps to answer your question!

How is the migration of the websites, and especially the email accounts, that I currently have? What kind of support do you offer in this regard?
Thank you.

Hello and thanks for contacting us. You’ll need to consolidate all websites into one cPanel account before its merged. Please contact our live support for further assistance.

Yes, you can downgrade your VPS to a Launch or Power plan to host just your domain’s email, while your website would be hosted by Shopify. Typically this is done by configuring the DNS zone located in the name servers that the domain is pointed to.

With that said, if your domain is pointed to InMotion Hosting’s name servers, then you can edit the DNS records using the Zone Editor in cPanel. Specifically, you will modify the MX record, which handles the email (to InMotion), as well as the A record, which handles the website traffic (to Shopify) for your domain. You may refer to our guide “How to Set DNS Records for 3rd Party Services” for general instructions on how to host your website with a 3rd party while your email is hosted by InMotion Hosting. I strongly recommend reaching out to Shopify to confirm which records (and their values) are required for the services you have with them prior to making any changes to your DNS.

If you are not pointed to InMotion Hosting’s name servers then you will need to edit the DNS records (similarly as outlined above, but) using the system designed for the name servers that your domain is pointed to. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Carlos DaSilva
